Kimi Maeda's The Ephemera Trilogy

Apr 22 - May 07 The Richard and Debbie Cohn Trustus Side Door Theatre

Paper and sand, light and shadow, memory and identity, the familiar and the strange; woven together these are the elements that compose Kimi Maeda’s Ephemera Trilogy.  Developed over a period of six years, Ephemera’s three short solo performances use a range of innovative storytelling techniques and stunning visuals to explore the artists’ bi-cultural identity and family history. The Crane Wife uses shadow puppetry to reimagine the traditional Japanese folk tale of the same name as a metaphor for her mother’s experiences as a Japanese immigrant.  In The Homecoming, Maeda uses a flashlight to bring stationery paper cutouts to life while exploring the link between one’s home, memory and identity.  Finally, in Bend, Maeda’s work reaches it’s apex as her father’s history, spanning his time in a WWII American internment camp to his recent struggle with Alzheimer's, is dramatically ...More

The Flick

With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, "The Flick" is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world. WINNER! 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama

BEST. MUSICAL. EVER. I saw the original whenever it was out. This was as good as, if not better. The set decorations, costumes, lyrics, dialogue and acting all conspired to create an unforgettable evening. I can only hope that there is a sequel . . .

The Brothers Size

Oct 16 - 31 2015 The Richard and Debbie Cohn Trustus Side Door Theatre

A PLAY BY TARELL ALVIN McCRANEY / DIRECTED BY CHAD HENDERSON

PART II OF THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS

We return to San Pere, Louisiana - the bayou. Big brother Ogun Size is hardworking and steady. Younger brother Oshoosi is just out of prison and aimless. Elegba, Oshoosi's old prison-mate, is a mysterious complication. A simple circle defines a world that begins in ritual and evolves into a tough and tender drama of what it means to brother and be brothered. Flights of poetry, music, and West African mythology combine in a contemporary tale that explores the tenuousness of freedom and the need to belong somewhere, to something, to someone. The Brothers Size is Part II of McCraney's The Brother/Sister Plays.

Marie Antoinette

Sep 18, 2015 - Oct 03 2015 The Thigpen Main Stage

A MODERN PLAY BY DAVID ADJMI, DIRECTED BY ROBERT RICHMOND

This play isn't starchy puffed-up historical drama. MARIE ANTOINETTE is FABULOUS, SEXY, COLORFUL, AND FUN!

In David Adjmi’s contemporary take on the young queen of France, Marie is a confection created by a society that values extravagance and artifice. But France’s love affair with the royals sours as revolution brews, and for Marie, the political suddenly becomes very personal. From the light and breezy banter at the palace to the surging chants of "Liberté, Egalité, raternité!" in the streets, Marie Antoinette holds a mirror up to our contemporary society that might just be entertaining itself to death.

STARRING TRUSTUS ENSEMBLE MEMBERS: Jennifer Moody Sanchez, G. Scott Wild, & Ellen Rodillo Fowler.

STARRING GUEST ARTISTS: Paul Kaufmann, Eric ...More
