About the Play

Fat Ham by James Ijames is a Pulitzer Prize-winning, modern, comedic reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Set at a backyard Southern barbecue celebrating a hasty wedding, it follows Juicy, a sensitive, queer Black college student. When his father’s ghost demands he avenge his murder, Juicy grapples with generational trauma, choosing joy and liberation over violence.
