Brothas and Sistas – A staged re-reading of Terrance Henderson’s The Black Man…Complex
Saturday, September 28
Trustus Side Door Theatre
2pm

Originally premiered at Trustus in 2014, Henderson is now work shopping the production for a 2020 reboot. The reading will include a special appearance by Columbia’s IndigoSOUL and a guided post-reading talk back with the cast and director.

With an ensemble of four performers, Henderson explores the relationships between ethnicity, sexuality and society in this full-length work, which incorporates movement, sound and images, all interwoven with Henderson’s original text and choreography.  A search for identity, an emotional journey towards a sacred place, a challenge, a plea, The Black Man…Complex utilizes a tapestry of artistic elements to give audience members a sense of one artist’s expression of the complexity of finding one’s rightful place in the world.
