BY TERRY GUEST
DIRECTED BY TERRANCE HENDERSON

Courtney Berringers would like to welcome you to her wake! But make no mistake—this ain’t your grandma’s funeral. At the Wake of a Dead Drag Queen is a play about Blackness, southern queerness, and the fine art of drag. From African Gods and Goddesses to Trina and Whitney Houston, At the Wake thoughtfully uses storytelling, drama, and drag to explore identity, illness, and the narratives we construct for ourselves. The two-person cast features Hermon Whaley Jr. as Courtney and Elena Devour as Vicky Versailles, directed and choreographed by Trustus Company member Terrance Henderson. The scintillating comedic drama asks, “What would it be like if you had a chance to come back to tell your story, to grow in the afterlife?” Come party at the wake. Bring your own heels!

At the Wake of a Dead Drag Queen is presented by special arrangement with playwright Terry Guest.

Runtime: Approx. 2 hours including 15 minute intermission
