Jane and Delilah are forced to confront profound questions of guilt, responsibility, and sacrifice as Jane must decide between attending college in pursuit of her lifelong dreams, or staying home to care for Delilah – who is locked in a desperate battle with severe mental illness and opioid addiction.

Character Descriptions

• JANE: 17-22, folksy MEZZO. (think Ingrid Michaelson) An optimistic, wise- beyond her years high school senior who has shouldered the responsibility of caring for her mother. She should be an average teenage girl.
• LILAH: JANE’s mother, 40s-50s.  Deep, smoky rock ALTO (think Janis Joplin) Lilah struggles with mental illness and a subsequent drug addiction. She loves her family, specifically Jane, deeply.
• JORDAN: JANE’s brother, mid twenties. rock TENOR Jordan left for the Navy carrying a great deal of anger toward his mother. He is outspoken yet sensitive.
• DANIEL: JANE’s father, forties/fifties. BARITONE He is relatively passive with a carefree mask that
  slowly falls throughout the musical.
• GABBIE: 17-22. MEZZO An extremely quirky, kind high school senior who is JANE’s best friend. She serves as Jane’s support system and comic relief throughout the musical.
• THE VOICES: The voices exist in Lilah’s mind. The group should be diverse in terms of age, race, gender etc. Each voice personifies their own attribute in a fully embodied manner.
